It doesn’t matter if you are small start up or the biggest retailer in the game. I have applied these to multiple businesses and have seen these optimizations work over and over. I myself have done test after test improving a site’s load time, for example, and seeing the immediate increase in rank. Here is the top 3:

  1. Improve your site load time to under 2.5 seconds (or faster if your competitors are faster) for both mobile and desktop. Use GTMetrix and PageSpeed Insights to identify issues to fix and gauge your progress.
  2. Ensure your page title meta data is optimized for your target keyword on each page, the page location within your site, and either a call-to-action or branding. Example, “Blue Cars for Sale in Philadelphia, PA | Blue Cars | Brand Name”.
  3. Use conversion based bidding. Google’s algorithm and AI is incredibly good at identifying conversion opportunities. 80/20 your efforts here and move to a conversion based bid strategy.
